Personal Showing of the Paul Sack Photography Collection: Wednesday, March 28
Enjoy a unique and exclusive opportunity to experience a private showing of Paul Sack's personal collection on the history of photography. All of the photographs were printed by the original photographer within one year of the snap of the camera. Issues in Science Party: Saturday, April 14
You can't open a newspaper these days without encountering a bioethical issue. Let's struggle together and visit the very gray areas of modern bioethics. Modeled on College Prep's Issues in Science class, teachers Eva Campodonico '95, Preston Tucker and Johanna Lanner-Cusin '99 will lead a parent discussion of issues raised by society's use of biomedical tools. No specialized scientific knowledge needed, just an interest in digging into complex ethical questions that will no doubt trigger both controversy and head scratching. The evening will also feature delectable Indian and Spanish street food prepared by our host families and enjoyed in the beautiful Orinda home of Meeta Gandhi and Prashanth Ajjampur. We look forward to sharing rousing conversation and delicious food in a lovely setting.
$125 per person. Limited to 18 guests. Saturday, April 14, from 5:30 - 9:30 pm.

Back to Our Literary Futures: Tea with Kate Kordich, Sunday, April 29
Think the past is past? Think again. Consider how our brains revisit moments; even when we're not actively pursuing them, memories leap to our consciousness; all you need is to catch a whiff of cinnamon toast, eucalyptus leaves underfoot on an August day, Zest soap, or whatever it is for you and you're immediately back in time. These vestiges of our lives stay with everyone, which is why authors mine their memories for their fiction and their non-fiction. Some of the most vivid tales around are those that were experienced first-hand and then remembered in literary form. Together we'll analyze how masters of the craft create memoirs and why they are so powerful for readers. On an afternoon at Alex Hsu's beautiful home, with treats for high tea baked by Sandra Sardjono and Sophie Volpp, we'll discuss sample memoirs by Jeanette Walls, Michael Frank, and others and do some writing of our own. Kate Kordich will lead us, as she does our students in the College Counseling office, through some easy and clarifying writing explorations. Expect absolutely zero reading aloud, but a convivial afternoon among others with a love of stories.
$100 per person. Limited to 15 guests. Sunday, April 29, from 3:00 - 5:00 pm.

CRUFit Rowing Party: Friday, May 4
Join special guests Kiet Tran and Godwin Odiye of the Athletics Department, along with hosts Noreen and Stewart Irving, for a Friday evening of fitness and fun at CRUfit health club in Montclair. You'll get as easy or hard a workout as you like, with a 50-minute group indoor rowing session, followed by drinks and a catered, light dinner with "the crew"!
Novice and experienced rowers are welcome, as the group will be led through warm-ups covering the elements of the rowing stroke by Mark Sutro, owner/founder of CRUfit and Cal Rowing alumnus. Then we'll progress to intervals of synchronized rowing set to a musical soundtrack. Come solo or with your mate...it's great for couples to row together, as everyone does their workout on their individual erg, with no pressure from the group on performance. (And for those of you ex-collegiate or high school rowers, this is NOT your painful, old-school erging session...so give it a try!)
